What Are Perler Beads?
Perler beads (also called fuse beads or Hama beads) are small plastic cylinders that you arrange on a pegboard to create pixel-art designs. Once you're happy with your pattern, you iron them with a hot iron and they fuse together into a solid piece.
What You Need
- Beads: Start with a mixed color pack (Perler Midi is the standard 5mm size)
- Pegboard: The classic square 29×29 board is perfect for beginners
- Iron: Any household iron works (no steam!)
- Parchment paper: Placed between the iron and beads
- Tweezers: Optional but helpful for placing small beads
Your First Pattern
- Pick a simple design (a heart or star works great)
- Place beads on the pegboard following your pattern
- Cover with parchment paper
- Iron on medium heat for 10-15 seconds
- Flip and iron the other side
- Let it cool under a heavy book for 1 minute
